Dakabin - Kallangur is an urban and semi-urban area. Dakabin - Kallangur is bounded by the locality of Narangba in the north, the Bruce Highway in the east, Fresh Water Creek, Bunbury Street, Duffield Road, the suburb of Murrumba Downs and Bickle Road in the east, the North Pine River in the south and the railway line in the west.

Dakabin is named from an Aboriginal word meaning “grass tree”.

Kallangur is named from an Aboriginal word meaning “a goodly or satisfactory place”.

Settlement of the area dates from the 1850s. Expansion took place in the early 1900s when the township of Kallangur was en-route to the Redcliffe Peninsula. The most significant development occurred from the 1960s. The population continued to increase slightly from the early 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area.

Major features of the area include Alma Park Zoo, Watson Park Convention Centre, Kallangur Fair Shopping Centre, Goodfellows Shopping Centre, Lillybrook Shopping Village, Bob Brock Park and numerous schools.
