Commentary Located within a 8 km radius of the Brisbane CBD, Gaythorne is a small suburb of less than one square kilometre in size and is surrounded by Mitchelton, Everton Park and Enoggera.

Facilities such as hospitals, schools and shops are readily available. Brookside Shopping Centre, which opened in 1972 and is now a landmark in the area, was one of the first retail shopping centres in Brisbane and offers residents a choice of two large supermarkets, Myers, Target and smaller retail chains. Residents are also close to Stafford City Shopping Centre and Westfield Chermside, both with cinema and entertainment outlets.

Numerous private and public schools accommodating both primary and secondary aged children in Gaythorne and neighbouring suburbs including the McAuley Campus of the Australian Catholic University, Mt Maria Senior Catholic College, Mitchelton High and Mitchelton Primary to name a few.

According to the 2006 Census there was 1,971 people living in the area with a median age of 32. The median individual income was $569 per week. Of all occupied private dwellings 41.2% were either fully owned or being purchased; 53.5% were being rented.
