Commentary Located approximately 16 km or a half-hour drive from Brisbane's CBD, Deagon is bordered by Sandgate, Taigum, Boondall and Bracken Ridge.

Deagon's population has seen a shift from established families and retirees toward a younger family-oriented community. The redevelopment of the foreshore and the increasing number of restaurants and cafes in Sandgate has contributed to Deagon's popularity in recent times.

Home to the old Deagon Racecourse the facilities are still used to train horses. For this reason the sight of racing horses along the Deagon roadside is not uncommon. The racecourse borders the Deagon Sports Ground, which incorporates the Albury Oval and other park activities.
Residents are also in close proximity to the foreshore activities in Sandgate and Brighton, as well as local yacht and golf clubs.

Residents are well catered for with primary and high schools (both public and private) located in Deagon and the surrounding suburbs and the Queensland University of Technology and North Point Institute of TAFE located at Carseldine and Bracken Ridge respectively.

Deagon Plaza is complemented by the Sandgate Shopping Complex along Brighton Road and services the retail needs of residents. Public transport is excellent around Deagon with the Deagon train station complemented by local bus services to surrounding suburbs.

Deagon is an older area, made up predominantly of houses with a few unit and townhouse complexes mixed in. Lately, a number of new residential developments have established a change in the suburb's make-up. Attracting buyers with its proximity to the Sandgate foreshore and its local amenities, Deagon has seen solid growth over the last five years.

According to the 2006 Census there were 3,108 people living in the suburb with a median age of 40. The median individual income was $421 per week. Of all occupied private dwellings 64.2% were either fully owned or being purchased; 21.8% were being rented.
